Located on Treaty 4 land in the southeast corner of Alberta, Orion is a hamlet with a population of less than 10 people. The folks who still live there, however, have plenty of love and pride for their home. A Calgary Dream in Ruins

Calgary, Alberta has its fair share of intriguing houses. But for me, Calgary’s most interesting house ever, was an unfinished sandstone castle on the banks of the Elbow River. This is the story of Lindsay’s Folly, a Calgary Pioneer’s dream home that now sits in ruins. Here is a map to all the locations mentioned in the video, go out and explore them: goo.gl/H564z8

I was born in Medicine Hat in 1945. My family lived in Orion until 1950. My Dad used to fly his Piper Cub to The Hat the house Dad built was 50% standing in the early 1990s. My aunt is buried in Orion. It was her wish to be returned to Orion after her service to The Ivory Coast for 55 years. All of my uncles and aunts have died. The last uncle died in July, 2023.

Wow, growing up on Stanley Drive us kids used to explore 'Lindsays Castle' on a regular basis. We also found a whole bunch of bones just south of the Castle tucked into the side of the hill closer to the river bank but above the pathway. I always wondered if it may have been a spot for a native buffalo jump. Great video and thanks!

The demolishing of the hospital is easily one of the most disappointing things Calgary could have done, especially considering most of any historical landmarks left are few or demolished as well. That building was beautiful, regardless the fact it may not have been serving a purpose at the time. They could have at least saved it for a later date where refurbishing it for another purpose would have been beneficial. The architecture and structure was great. I'm all for moving forward in the means of progressing a new city, but it's pretty sad when all the old architecture that built the city was at its expense. Now all we have are pictures and that's literally it.

I think the Patrick Burns you mention at about 4:45 had a historic building named after him that was almost demolished in the early 1980’s. I was a high rise plumber / pipe fitter in Calgary at the time (I worked on the AGT building ... now “Telus” I think ... and First Canadian Plaza Bank of Montreal building) and remember the “save the Burns Building” campaign! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burns_Building

First neighbourhood we lived in when we emigrated to Canada as refugees , in 1957. We lived in a house just 2 down from the Stephenson Grocery (don't remember if that was it's name then) The "Rundle" hospital building I remember as having Nursing Sisters going in and out all the time. The building had a very weird fire escape chute at the back that us kids would climb up and slide down. We also lived in two other houses, one across 12 Ave from Vic Park Elementary, the other kitty-corner to the school. I loved living in the neighbourhood. Easy as pie to sneak into the Calgary Stampede at the time too. We knew all the little holes in the fences. Loved the video. Thanks for the memories.

Hey Kelsy. If you ever do an update on Vic Park. Consider including the Imperial Liquor and Tobacco warehouse (now Imperial Lofts). Imperial L&T also had a shop on 8th Ave. I think the warehouse was built in 1905? I came across a Glenbow photo of the Alexandria hotel with the Imperial warehouse under construction in the background.
